Trip 2, Day 5 Layover
Trip Day - Monday, September 27th
0600-53F/50F. Cold in the cabin! Heat is on. I will put on the stove top oven to warm up my coffee cake to have with coffee this morning. Sun is beginning to show signs in the east. Solar at a new low of 19%. Not good!
0659-68F/52F. Cabin is now warm. Finished my coffee cake with melted butter along with coffee. Will complete my morning study next. I do plan to layover today and regain some watts for the solar battery.
0839-71F/52F. Study complete. I will move the boat for better sun exposure before I make breakfast. Solar now 16%! Boat is repositioned which should help. I will also angle the solar panels to maximize watts.

0918-Tilted and angled the panels to obtain max watts when sun comes out from behind the trees.
0941-Breakfast was Peanut Butter Chex, with strawberries, and PB toast. Will wait a bit to wash dishes. Usually my morning task once I arrive at a new boat site. I examined the charts to determine a likely destination for tomorrow. 66F/55F.
1107-Just got back from a hike around the island. Nice hike, nice views! I will go ashore and read for a while before I have a noon snack. Solar at 15% (all time low), but charging at 75w. Fall's low sun angles hamper the ability to get a good charge this time of year even with a blue sky!

1220-73F inside, so I opened the aft door for more cooling. Finished my typical "boat lunch" of crackers, cheese, apples, and nuts. Solar is now 22% (116w of charge). Not the best for this time of day with clear skies!
Not sure I want to take on the task of cutting firewood since I have to haul it from the NE side of the island. I may back off from that plan and use the fire ring or table top fire tonight.
1245-Rearranged the solar panels. Solar now 24% (147w charge with 240w panels)

1314-Walked over to the east side of the island again to see if there were any campers at the campsite on the adjacent island to NE. I saw what looked like a boat, at least something reflecting. However, with field glasses I confirmed no one was there. No boats, no activity at all, so far today. Solar 27% (139w). Will go do some more reading from my shore perch.
While reading, I observed two boats fishing to my north, but they both soon left the area. Then all of a sudden around the NE corner of the island, at high speed, comes a large Border Patrol inflatable. He approached from behind the island to the east, and I'm not sure if he saw my boat as he high tailed it to the north and north east. Where were they the night before last? Maybe the suspicious boat I observed was who they were looking for? But they should have been patrolling at night instead of broad daylight!
1408-32% Solar (125w). Reading my novel, but it's too early for dinner, so I will read some more. I may take another hike to stretch my legs. 75F/71F. Beautiful day!
1454-74F/64F. Solar up to 35% (143w). Will start working on dinner.
1600-Finished up dinner of spaghetti, salad, hot roll, and red wine. Pulled chicken out of the freezer and put it in the fridge to thaw for dinner tomorrow.
1710-73F/64F. The breeze began to drop. Solar will be shaded shortly, then I will reconfigure to flat panels for tomorrow's move to a new boat site. Haven't decided on the fire ring or table top fire yet for tonight.
1742-46% on the solar battery, max for the day, up 31% from the low. Time to reconfigure panels.

1944-65F/59F. Came in from sitting around the fire and sipping Baileys with chocolates for dessert. Next I will listen to my audio book "Walk The Wire" by David Baldacci and hit the sack. No sign of Chubby today?
