Trip 2, Day 4, Leg 4

Trip Day - Sunday, September 26th

0535-57F/55F. Got up, changed into fresh clothes.  Plan to make coffee cake this morning. Had some light rain last night.  Chubby never showed his unwelcome hide!

0712-Coffee cake is ready and coffee is brewing.  Will enjoy shortly! Beautiful but ominous sunrise.  69F/55F. Coffee cake was great as usual.  Bible study and prayer time coming up.

0826-69F/57F. Finished study. Now time for a break.  My houseboat nemesis has not departed yet!

0903-I was preparing to move out when my nemesis sneaked by the stern very quietly. I was contemplating whether I should move or not since they departed, but now I feel compelled to go.

1046-Turned out to be a pleasant day.  Arrived at Saginaw Bay West (R38). 65F/64F.  5.1 nm total with average speed of 4.7 knots. Getting warm enough to finally crack the windows.  I'm down to 28% on my primary solar battery and managed, between sun and boat charging enroute, to bring my back up solar battery up to 100%.  It's good to have that in reserve.

This boat site is much more picturesque and also well exposed to the sun. Guess I should do the dishes. Left the bow door open again hoping to encourage Chubby to jump ship before he meets his demise. He has not shown his face since the first night?

1136-Dishes are finished, door has been open, but no sign of Chubby trying to make his escape, and no further sightings either.

1225-I cut and split some firewood, at least enough for a fire tonight. Beautiful warm (65F) sunny day today. Worked up a good sweat cutting firewood. I looked around for a kind of log holder and found two trees close together and jammed the logs in to hold them while I cut them with the saw. I'm not really that hungry but I plan to have pork pot roast, supplemented with some left over tenderloin for dinner.  More than I need!

I may layover here for a couple days, but need to move the boat a bit to starboard to optimize the sun angle in the morning. A tall tree blocks the early morning light.

Had a snack and cool drink and relaxed and read my novel ashore.

1430-Just finished having my first hot shower with the new kit.  It would be better in calm conditions, but even with a light breeze it worked okay, the curtains did not billow too much. Takes a while to put up and take down, but not bad.  Temps 75F/70F. Since temps were warm it seemed like a good time to try out the new shower arrangement.

1650-80F/74F. Finished dinner of pork roast, potatoes, hot ciabatta, salad, and red wine.  Now recharging the shower pump. Listening to offline downloaded Pandora music. New cabin curtains really help with shade in late afternoon sun, especially with high cabin temps.  Will go ashore to read more of my novel.

2005-Came back to the boat from the fire.  Wood was bad, and even with hot coals was reluctant to burn?  Didn't seem that wet, but must have been.  If I have another fire I hope I can find better wood to burn.

Day 4, Leg 4 - YouTube Video

Took some time lapse videos. Observed a beaver swimming by a couple of times and Canada geese flying after dark?

Something flew into my galley table window after dark!  A bat would not do that, maybe just a large bug attracted to the light of the window?  Whoops! He did it again.  Better turn out the light before I have too many casualties. Pleasant evening with moderate temps, 64F/59F now. Will listen to my audio book and fall asleep.  Solar battery is up a little to 35% after some sun today.
