Trip 1, Day 9, Leg 9
Trip Day: Wednesday, August 4th
0600-67F/65F. Same weather as yesterday: calm, high clouds, and smoky haze. Based on the morning temps it will be hot again!
0834-72F/73F. After coffee, Pecan Sandies, reading, and prayer, I had breakfast of granola with strawberries, and toast with peanut butter. Getting ready to move. Solar is 61% with 12 watts input. 8% less than yesterday due to the intense heat.
1043-78F/83F-Raced a houseboat to the narrow turn point between two islands. Then we waved and parted ways.
Entering Junction Bay I decided to check out what looked like an uncharted lake on the Avenza Park map, but not on the Navionics chart. It turned out to be too shallow for entry through the narrow creek outlet. So I moved on.
I then headed down to the falls but there were folks visiting so I turned around and found an unmarked boat site with a very steep tie up. Distance was 7.0 nm and 6.3 kts average speed.

I will have to go up and cut some branches to get better access to the tie up trees. I should be relatively unmolested here...I think?

1142-83F/90F-Solar is 66%. I will have to angle the panels to try to recover more watts.
Finished daily dishes. Pulled out the Porta Potti to check the quantity of the black tank. I decided I needed to shake the tank to move the solids around in the liquid to prevent pile up and improve breakdown of the paper and solids. Seemed to help. I should have capacity for 2 weeks easily on this tank. I avoid putting liquids in the tank to stretch capacity.
I'm thirsty but not hungry, so I may eat a little. Noon and it is already 90F, so it will go higher!
1322-86F/95F. Outside sensor is exposed to the sun, so outside temp is not an accurate temperature. I had a typical boat lunch to satisfy my hunger. Then I angled the solar panels for best performance. After all the activity I went for a second swim to cool off. May read and nap for a while.
1509-85F/88F. High clouds and smoky haze is blocking the sun making it less effective. Read my book "The Goodnight Trail" by Ralph Compton (a western) followed by a good nap.
1630-85F/86F. Cloudy with a breeze. Loosing ground with the solar! 86% yesterday, 87% day before, now 69%. Not terrible, but not what I expected.
1845-81F/82F-Dinner was chicken wild rice soup, hot roll, salad, and white wine. Cleaned up and went out on the aft deck and glassed the shores looking for otters since there is a lot of sign at this site of them bringing their catch here to eat. However, none have been spotted so far.
Delayed putting the solar panels down since they were still putting out 6 watts, without any sun! Draw on the battery is 30 watts so that is a net of 24 watts. Any watts are good watts!
Listening to music while enjoying some red wine. I followed that up with some Baileys with chocolates for dessert. Will douse the music and watch for critters after I put the solar panels down.
2035-78F/77F. Time for bed. Did my last hour before dark looking for wildlife. Did see an otter but a it was a long way off swimming across the channel. He dove and I never saw him again. Will listen to my audio book and drift off to sleep.
