Trip 1, Day 4, Leg 4
Trip Day: Friday, July 30th
0638-61F/52F. Windows and doors closed at this hour to let it warm up a bit. Not using any heat yet.
0733-62F/57F. Done with my Bible study and prayer, ready to make breakfast.
0826-65F/60F. Finished blueberry pancakes with bacon and OJ. Cleaned up, but will hold on the dishes. I usually do dishes once a day on arrival at the next site. I plan to move and already saw another houseboat moving this morning.

Vacuumed the cabin floor and picked up all kinds of sand from the sandy beach at K28. Will wash dishes and decide on what dinner to take out of the freezer. 67F/72F.

1040-68F/73F. Dishes are done, time to relax!
1106-Repaired the solar vent battery which lost contact and the fan was not running at night. Put in some foil to give it more friction and more surface area for the battery contacts.
1210-Had crackers, cheese, apples, and nuts with wine for lunch. Plan to read and take a nap.
1315-Took a nap, but woke to what I thought was a boat approaching. Turns out it was across the bay. The boat was now swinging close to shore, so I checked depth. About 5' at minimum! A little tighter than I like! 80F/86F.
Pretty close to the rocks! Note: Water retrieving pail and dinner dishes soaking. White pail is for showers (Click to Enlarge)
1350-Went for a swim to cool off. Hot and hazy. 82F/86F. Not getting as much sun for the solar battery as I would like. I tied my flip flops to a line intending to swim to shore and find a place to walk around, but the rocks were steep and the boat began swinging out. So, I thought I better swim back before I wore myself out! Last time I boarded in an emergency (Grand Marais Harbor) I was fully clothed and I was unsure my tender feet would like the ladder steps? But, it worked out fine.
Pretty tight quarters! At the end of the trip I would have an encounter with that wall of rocks in the left background! (Click to Enlarge)
Nice to be able to swim to clean up but I'm concerned for cold weather showering on this boat. I need a better solution from what I currently have.
1445-Read for quite awhile. 85F/87F. Hot, calm, with a smoky haze. Need some wind and cooler weather!
The Essentials: Field glasses, book, music on Pandora, and wine. Usually, my camera is also close by. (Click to Enlarge)
1545-Finished dinner. Chicken wild rice soup, salad, hot roll, and white wine while listening to music.
More smoky haze, I can even smell it! Coming from Manitoba and maybe western Ontario. 86F/85F. No wind, calm.

1640-83F/81F. Will take another swim to cool off.
1950-79F/78F. Finally cooling off a bit. Sat on the aft deck and listened to music. Had my daily Baileys with chocolates for dessert. I read my novel and enjoyed the quiet of the evening. Smoke has cleared up a lot. Should have gone ashore to get some pics of the boat at anchor.
Will hit the sack shortly. Normally I listen to an audio book before I fall asleep.
This location has been a virtual highway between Kabetogama and Namakin. Boats are constantly passing, maybe 10 or more per hour, both ways. Fortunately, I am behind an island so I don't get their wakes, most of the time.
I've enjoyed being at anchor, no dirt dragged aboard, better exposure for the solar panels, cleaner water for swimming.
I put up the anchor light, but will it work? I will have to check as it gets dark (It worked!). I can't imagine a ranger actually cruising around checking for the few boats who actually need anchor lights!
Solar battery is 67%, 70% at the end of the day yesterday. Close but no cigar! Night, night.
